No set agenda, no big presentations, just an opportunity to chat with like minded folk who are working in architectural visualisation or related fields.

If you’re based in Bristol and you’re an archviz freelancer, part of a small studio, working in-house at an architecture practice – or just interested in a career in archviz in the future… come along and say hello!

We’ll be meeting at one of Bristol’s finest breweries, Wiper & True – where they also host Eatchu, so if you’re keen for gyoza, rice bowls and more they should be available!

According to the World Economic Forum, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are at the top of the skills list that employers believe will grow in prominence over the next five years.  But how often do we leave a workshop feeling frustrated that we haven’t achieved the intended outcome, deflated by the lack of energy or participation in the room, or annoyed that it’s been derailed by competing agendas or personalities?

Packed with handy tools, techniques and tips, this half-day interactive session will help participants design and facilitate more productive, memorable and inclusive workshop experiences, delivering high value and impact for their teams and clients.

Hip Hop hits the high street as part of Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover

Bristol city centre will be alive with Hip Hop beats next weekend, thanks to The 4 Pillars: 50 Years of Hip Hop, a special celebration to mark a half-century of the genre and its impact on the city’s culture, as part of Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover.

The free day-long event delivered by Freestyle Bristol and Bris-Story, will take place at Sparks Bristol in Broadmead from 12pm on Saturday 12th August. It is one of nine free events running across the city centre this summer as part of Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover, presented by Bristol UNESCO City of Film and partners.

Hip Hop officially turns 50 on 11th August 2023, a date that is being marked around the world. The 4 Pillars: 50 Years of Hip Hop will explore its connection with Bristol and its lasting legacy that has impacted numerous cultures throughout the world.

DJ STYLE Bris-Story says: “The emergence of Hip Hop saw cities like Bristol form their own scene, created as an underground movement in the 1980’s by people who were marginalised by mainstream society. Hip Hop was able to unify different cultures together through its 4 Pillars – Rapping, Breaking, Graffiti & DJ-ing.”

Freestyle Bristol MD Delroy Hibbert, adds: “The 4 Pillars is our way of celebrating Hip Hop and the way it continues to influence Bristol’s culture and the rest of the world.”

Natalie Moore, Bristol UNESCO City of Film Manager says: “We can’t wait to present this free celebration of Bristol’s Hip Hop scene as part of our Summer Film Takeover. With a packed day of music and film activities for the public to enjoy, featuring some of the city’s best-known artists, DJs and street dancers, this is a chance to immerse yourself in a multi-arts experience of this genre’s foundations. Whether you were there at its birth in the 80’s, or whether you’re a younger Hip Hop fan, come and be a part of it.”

The day will kick off at 12pm with award-winning radio station Ujima98 FM broadcasting live from the event. Unique archive footage, music videos and mini Hip Hop documentaries will be screened, curated by Gary Thompson (Cables & Cameras) and Adam Murray (Come The Revolution). There’ll be graffiti workshops with the 4 Elements and DJ workshops with DJ Bunjy suitable for all ages, an art and merchandise marketplace, and performances from local artists, DJ’s and breakdancers including MC Kelz, BBoy Maartian and Wish Master.

From 5pm there will be screenings of two classic Hip Hop movies:

5pm: Beat Street (15), the 1984 film directed by Stan Latham and produced by Harry Belafonte, which focuses on a group of young graffiti artists, breakers, MC’s & DJ’s as they battle for success and recognition in the South Bronx during the 1980’s

7pm: Wild Style (15), the 1983 film directed and produced by Charlie Ahearn, which features seminal figures such as Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, The Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Queen Lisa Lee of Zulu Nation, Grandmaster Flash and ZEPHYR.

This event is free but tickets for the film screenings need to be booked in advance at: freestylebristol.com/the4pillars

The Anti-Banquet is the brainchild of Josh Eggleton and his community food company Team Canteen, with the aim to create a sustainable revenue source for Bristol’s food charities and organisations trying to eliminate food poverty in the city.

The event is staged as a partnership between Team Canteen, The Pony Chew Valley, Ashton Gate Stadium, Team Love and Plaster. It is made possible by generous donations from sponsors including Bristol Beer Factory and Arthur David. Sponsoring companies will each be given a table to donate to a good cause or to use for team members who wouldn’t usually get to attend celebration events.

We’re giving deserving people a good time and raising money at the same time! CEOs and leadership from the sponsoring businesses will be given the chance to cook in the kitchen alongside some of the UK’s most esteemed chefs, and invited to take over serving the guests throughout the night.

The event will be hosted by Jayde Adams and Joe Simms with a host of entertainment from bands, entertainers, circus performers and so much more.

Tables are £2000 each with sponsorship packages available. Read more via the button below!

There’s a lot of talk about AI these days. What’s clear is that AI is changing how we work in the agency landscape, and it’s doing so fast.

As clients and employees raise their expectations, it’s crucial for leaders of digital agencies to get the big calls right. Yet, in an atmosphere rife with chatter and uncertainty, identifying the correct path forward can be daunting.

Neil Collard will begin by introducing the 5 pressing conversations that he believes every agency should be having at board level about AI. The implications of these conversations may prove unsettling but the arguments are well constructed and create clarity about the nature and scale of the AI challenge, and the steps that are required to prosper in an AI driven future.

After setting the scene, most of the workshop will be about sharing practical strategies and steps your agency can take in the near and mid-term. This is all about shaping the way your agency works and behaves as we step further into the AI era.

By the end of the day you will:

This workshop is aimed at agency owners/founders/directors running agencies with a wide range of AI maturity, including zero knowledge to those that are starting to reap the rewards.

About Neil Collard

Neil has 25 years agency experience, with a decade at the helm of Bristol’s own Great State. For the past four years, he has focused on understanding the interplay between Data, AI, and their implications for agencies.

Two years ago he went back to school to learn python, data science and machine learning (ML) techniques. He has since developed ML and AI (auto GPT based) products and engaged with over 100 agencies across Europe about the impact of AI on their business.

Tickets

Tickets are priced at £125 +VAT for BCI members and £175 +VAT for non-members. This includes refreshments and a buffet lunch. Book your place below!

This workshop will be held at Origin Workspace, 40 Berkeley Square, BS8 1HP.

No matter the project there’s always a compromise to be made, a political issue to navigate, or a budget vs scope question. A project is seldom the ‘director’s cut’, but how do the greatest agencies use their best asset – their creativity – to turn these limitations into original work with the most effective outcomes?

In this session, Adam Millbank will walk you through proper brainstorming techniques and teach you how to SCAMPER, a method of pulling something apart to see if it can be done better. He’ll then use some case study examples to illustrate them in action.

This webinar will be particularly suited to agencies, creatives, project leaders, project coordinators, BD, and account managers.

More about our ‘Wake Up Call’ webinar series

These sessions take place every other Friday morning from 8.30-9am, for the BCI community to share their pearls of wisdom with one another. The half hour webinars will involve a 15 minute presentation followed by a 10 minute facilitated Q&A, with introductions from the BCI team.

Our community is full of such amazing talent so we’re giving members the stage to talk about things that excite them so they can inspire their peers. The sessions will be a mix of expert tips and tricks and case studies – the perfect opportunity to learn something new before the week is out.

Our usual online format is an interactive ‘meeting’ but for this series we’re running webinars so that it’s easy to listen in while prepping for the day ahead or while having your breakfast! Cameras and mics will be off but you can ask your questions through the chat box or submit them beforehand.

Please get in touch with Sian if you’re interested in speaking at a future session.

Join us at The Square Club on Tuesday 19th September 5.30 – 8pm for our freelancer networking drinks.

As part of our membership network, we have over 200 freelancers working within the creative industries. It’s the perfect chance to catch up with old friends and meet plenty of new faces too!

This event is open to freelancers as well as anyone who regularly engages with freelancers. It will allow you to widen networks, make new connections, discuss common problems, and discover potential opportunities for collaboration going forward. You’ll be sure to head home with a new contact.

The drinks will be held in the lower deck at The Square Club on Berkeley Square. We’ll have a private bar to purchase drinks, plus the food menu will be available if anyone fancies something to eat.

Tickets for BCI members are FREE and include a drinks token for the bar. Tickets for non-members are £5 +VAT.
