The Bristol Creative Industries Internship Programme seeks to open the door to young people from underrepresented backgrounds and provide them with real opportunities to break into the creative industry.
Two of the biggest challenges facing the creative industries right now are a long-term skills shortage and a lack of diversity in the sector.
The Bristol Creative Industries Internship Programme is aimed at young people (18-30yrs) from underrepresented backgrounds wanting to gain more insight and real experience in the creative industries. Working in partnership with Babbasa & some of our member businesses in and around Bristol, the scheme is part of the OurCity2030 Pathway into Creative & Tech and offers a variety of roles in advertising, marketing, design, digital and animation.
Applications are being managed by our friends at Babbasa, a local youth empowerment organisation that supports diverse young people to achieve their career goals regardless of their background.
To apply for the BCI Internship Programme applicants must identify with the following:
The deadline for committing to host an intern in 2024 has now passed but you can still register your interest for the next round, which will kick off in early 2025.
Interns complete two 3-month paid internships. The programme provides a mix of professional skills training, creative skills training, inspirational talks, networking events, mentoring and opportunities for future employment for the interns as well as ED&I, mental health and neurodiversity training for the businesses involved.
You must be based in Bristol (or be willing to pay reasonable travel expenses).
Key points to note:
If you’re interested in getting involved in 2025, please email [email protected] for more information.

“We all want to make our industry more diverse and inclusive, but when you run a small business it’s not always easy to know how to make a practical difference. By coming together as the Bristol Creative Industries community to support the internship programme, members can do their bit to help young people get that all important foot in the door.”
We’re thrilled to introduce the first group of interns who took part in the Programme…

”I took many learnings from the experience, but above all I learnt the importance of being an active learner. In a work setting it is important that you can communicate with the different departments and not be afraid to ask for what you want. In both agencies I felt comfortable to be myself and felt listened to. I like that the internship was tailored to what I needed.”

”Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t always a straight path, and I was never comfortable to put my hand up and say I want to learn more. But I have to say, I’m so glad I sat in the uncomfortable space for a little bit because I pushed past that point, I managed to develop and grow in so many different ways. ”
