This weekend, you are invited to journey through the city of Bristol on a film night like no other, with the second and last chance to experience ‘A Wall is a Screen: Secrets of the Old City’ on Saturday 16th September.

Presented by Encounters Festival and Hamburg-based collective A Wall is a Screen, the unique event is the final free offering from Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover, which has been running across the city centre since June, presented by Bristol UNESCO City of Film and partners.

‘A Wall is a Screen: Secrets of the Old City’ invites you to explore hidden architectural gems of Bristol’s Old City streets whilst watching a curated selection of short films projected onto nearby buildings to watch along the way. Experience film in surprising ways, as the background and soundscape of the city becomes part of the film, and the film becomes part of the city.

Encounters Festival’s outgoing CEO Rich Warren says: “We have wanted to bring over our friends, A Wall is a Screen, from Hamburg to Bristol for well over ten years, to share their vision of cinematic social engagement with Bristol’s vibrant film scene. Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover has been the perfect opportunity to do so. Don’t miss this second and final chance to be a part of an outdoor film experience to remember, the perfect precursor to Encounters Film Festival 2023 which kicks off on 27th September!”

Natalie Moore, Bristol UNESCO City of Film Manager, says: “We’re delighted to present another chance to experience A Wall is a Screen: Secrets of the Old City, our closing event in Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover. It proved hugely popular when it first ran in June so we urge film lovers not to miss this second chance to see the city’s architecture become part of the fabric of the film-viewing experience. Our thanks to Encounters and A Wall is a Screen, and to every partner we’ve worked with to bring our Summer Film Takeover events to life across Bristol’s city centre over the past three months.”

The tour will begin at the top of Corn Street (near Bristol Register Office) at 8pm on Saturday 16th September – keep an eye out for the A Wall is a Screen flags. The tour will last approximately one hour. The event is free and open to all, but booking is advised in order to secure your place on the tour. More about our ‘Wake Up Call’ webinar series

These sessions take place every other Friday morning from 8.30-9am, for the BCI community to share their pearls of wisdom with one another. The half hour webinars will involve a 15 minute presentation followed by a 10 minute facilitated Q&A, with introductions from the BCI team.

Our community is full of such amazing talent so we’re giving members the stage to talk about things that excite them so they can inspire their peers. The sessions will be a mix of expert tips and tricks and case studies – the perfect opportunity to learn something new before the week is out.

Our usual online format is an interactive ‘meeting’ but for this series we’re running webinars so that it’s easy to listen in while prepping for the day ahead or while having your breakfast! Cameras and mics will be off but you can ask your questions through the chat box or submit them beforehand.

Please get in touch with Sian if you’re interested in speaking at a future session.

The Wake Up Call sessions are exclusively for BCI members – register your free place below!

If you’re not yet a member of Bristol Creative Industries and would like to take advantage of this member-only event, you can sign up here. You can also read about the membership perks here.

Most people f*ck up at some point…and most people live to tell the tale.

F*ckup Nights is a global movement and event series that shares stories of professional failure. Events across the globe get 3 or 4 people to get up in front of a room full of strangers to share their own professional f*ckup/mistake. The stories of the business that crashes and burns, the partnership that goes sour, the product that has to be recalled, stories like these will all be told.

At this second event we wil have three fabulous speakers who are going to share their mistakes.  No happy ending for any of these three stories!

Anour said that some mistakes provide a great learning experience, and eventually turn into a positive thing, others bring consequences that will impact you for the rest of your life. His story is one of living a full life within the boundaries of those consequences.

Amidst a promising engineering career, Laura’s world imploded due to persistent workplace sexism, resulting in burnout, a broken relationship, and leaving her job. Hear Laura’s untold narrative of fighting in a system not designed for her, a tale of personal failure and the failure of an industry, with no happy endings.

These will be real stories, from real people and there will be lessons we can all learn from.

Let’s change the narrative, let’s #ShareTheFailure and learn from it.
