Doozy, a new collective led by artist Zac Berger and writer Lucas Nieboer announces the launch of a new zine documenting Bristol’s arts, music and culture scene with a day of art, performance, video games, film, and more from over 20 Bristol artists.
The show, being billed as a ‘happening’, is an all day exhibition featuring video games, film, photography, performances, painting, sculpture, games, and more. With an afterparty in association with local station Kafka Radio, it aims to address both the chronic lack of fun, or ‘craic’ in the arts and the need for better representation for emerging artists.
Spokesperson Lucas Nieboer said:
“Most people feel like they don’t ‘get’ a lot of contemporary art and tend to shy away from it. A lot of it is wordy, weighty, and pretty impenetrable. But a lot of it We think a lot of this is down to the fact that it’s presented in such a serious, dour kind of way. And should be in our opinion. That’s why we wanted to put on a show featuring work that deals with the kind of silliness and play that’s often crucial to the creative process. And we wanted to do it in a way that puts fun, silliness, and accessibility at the centre of the visitor experience.”
The event is also a launch party for the collective’s new zine, the Doozine, which features art, interviews, exclusives, and news on Bristol’s underground scene.
Come along to experience: an audience controlled Guitar Hero lighting rig, robotic sculpture, film room, postmodern video game room, live paining jam, a curated selection of sweets, animation, performance actors, VJs, zines, wearable art, painting, and a golden bin.
A lengthy and illegible exhibition text, a £35 exhibition publication, free white wine on entry, oil or war profiteering related sponsorship.
If you can’t make the launch party, be sure to head down to Strange Brew throughout March to see the exhibition.
