Sound Reactions are a collaboration between Jay Auborn and Giorgio Cortiana, aligned in the belief that like all good art, sound and music can inspire positive change in the world.
Relevant projects include:
- EmbodyXR, a VR art game that uses physical movement and digital storytelling to reduce the impact of anxiety in young people.
- Development of emotionally adaptive music systems for AI driven games (The Kraken Wakes, Charismatic)
- A device that uses bone conduction to immerse participants in a new way of engaging with archeological sites.
- A VR app to support rehabilitation of cochlear implant patients.
- Working with the NHS Trust to develop audio practices to help young people cope with mental health conditions.
Key People
Giorgio Cortiana
Giorgio Cortiana is a Sound Engineer, Audio Designer and Percussionist based in Bristol, UK. He is an experienced Sound Designer and Audio Programmer working with video games, apps, installations and performances that involve complex audio systems. His work often involves the use of mixed realities (VR and AR), spatial audio, custom hardware solutions, audio middleware, biofeedback, AI and procedurally-generated content. He works as a freelance audio engineer and music producer, and regularly performs as a drummer and percussionist (Bloco B, Theo Mizu, Limpet, Locomoss).
Jay Auborn
A highly experienced producer, sound designer and composer working at the intersection of art and technology across a wide range of commissions. He is ‘Head of Creative’ for dBs Pro, the award winning creative audio company and part of the dBs Institute. As a composer and music producer he is represented by Faber/Manners McDade and has released several critically acclaimed albums and film scores with record labels such as Cognitive Shift, Sony Entertainment and Village Green. As a sound artist his works including The Ancient Mariner Big Read have reached global audiences in their millions.
