Movies have captured by imagination ever since I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark and Ghostbusters as a youngster. I’m channelled this passion into a 15-year career as a Bristol-based film and soundtrack journalist.
My skill with digital editorial has been translated into film score-centric pieces for the likes of BBC, Curzon and Little White Lies. I’ve had the privilege of
interviewing several of Hollywood’s top composers including Michael
Giacchino and Hildur Gudnadottir.
I am also the author of the book The Sound of Cinema: Hollywood Film Music
from the Silents to the Present Day. It acts as a comprehensive and analytical
study of the art of film music from the earliest days of cinema through to
contemporary working practices.
From 2012 to 2025, I took up stewardship of Cineworld’s primary digital channel, pursuing my love of film through a stream of editorial content.
This was made up of different strands including creative feature ideas, news
and commissioned posts handpicked by me in my capacity as editor. Through
a combination of careful SEO and editorial strategy, I learned to target the
relevant audience and maximise click-throughs.
My work for Cineworld gave me a notable platform and has also
taught me valuable skills in the management of CMS and HTML systems. It’s
also an effective test of effective time management and workload.
I’m also experienced in using WordPress systems in my freelance work for
the likes of Flickering Myth. I’ve also amassed considerable experience
writing and interviewing for the likes of Den of Geek and HeyUGuys.
