MUTI is a South African word with a dual meaning: magic / medicine (or healing). Our founder Nick Young-Wolfe has drawn on his mixed South African & European heritage to explore what this concept means outside of his native land.
“For me the participation in live music, arts, and events has always played a magical healing role in my life. Coming back from Covid it was apparent to me that this is the role that it plays in all of our lives. The ability to come together in person, something that was denied to us for that strange and traumatic time, is a fundamental part of individual and societal wellbeing.”
MUTI Live’s team is drawn from industry professionals across the sector including technicians, producers, leaders, and educationalists to deliver a range of high-quality training programmes for everyone working in the sector from entry level to senior management. There is a (in some cases critical) skills shortage across the sector. There is also a chronic lack of representation of ethnic and disability minority groups. Our mission is to address these two problems.
We are also exploring the application of emergent technologies such as XR as a recruitment and training tool. Extended and blended realities are the new magic of the day, but for us it is important that they are used to serve and enhance reality, not replace it. We are interested in how it can engage and educate in a way that supports our live work.
We are interested in working with progressive organisations who work in, or with live arts and events. If this is you please get in touch to find out more.
