Currently specialising in Branding as a freelance designer, Marissa has a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Communication and experience working in 17 different creative agencies on projects spanning Brand Identity, Packaging Design, Strategy & Planning, Digital Design and Experience Design.
In 2019 Marissa was awarded the Ben Martin Apprentice Award, in collaboration with Bristol Creative Industries, Babbasa and The IPA, where she attended South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas – the world’s largest interactive media conference festival, and delve into learning about how brands are evolving while immersing herself into the future of design and creative tech.
Marissa has also been awarded a scholarship on the 2020 Social Capital Network programme funded by Google and is a member of the board of directors for Bristol Creative Industries.
Outside of work Marissa runs a natural hair care Youtube Channel where she educates black women on textured hair care, encouraging them to embrace their natural curls and coils. She works with brands to review products, host events and also attend events as a guest speaker. Marissa is also the Co-Founder of an early stage start-up which aims to simplify the curly hair care journey and experience for women who care for textured hair.
Marissa also takes up street-dance as she’s been training, performing and competing around Europe since the age of 7. Although she rarely competes anymore it’s a great form of exercise, with an amazing and diverse social circle, which allows her to express her creativity in a different way.
