Dear Sir/Madame,
I am interested in working in television and entertainment. I have many experiences in working in music performances, orchestras, shows as well as musical theatre productions. From the age of 7, I have been classically trained in flute playing as well as starting orchestra bands at the age of 8 at Little Stoke Development Centre. After a lot of dedication, I am now able to say that I am Grade 8 standard and going to take the grade 8 exam with Trinity in December 2025. As I have grown up, I have also developed skills such as team working, being a section leader, communication and have also gained experience with teaching these skills to younger, eager performers. But above all, I have learnt how to work in fast paced environments such as backstage work, including setting stages.
The stages that I have set up include orchestra settings, pop band settings as well as musical theatre stages. This means that I can set up a range of stages quickly and efficiently. I can be independent with these skills if needed. For example, with orchestra stages, I understand the importance of spacing so that all performers are able to be seen, as well as heard. Throughout my experiences, I have learnt that different instruments will need music stands set up differently, which is something that I believe isn’t considered as a main priority, but I am passionate that it should be.
As I mentioned previously, I have also set up music performance stages (pop band stages) this means that I have worked with monitors as well as mixing and sound desks and my personal favourite, lighting desks. Although it is important to be aware of spacing, I think it is also important to be able to listen for the correct sound levels as well as indicate when or where a problem may arise. Problems may include broken leads or feedback issues. It is important for backstage staff to understand things from a performer’s perspective as well, which is something I take into account daily. Being involved with backstage isn’t just about being about to do things technically, but also to be able to be supportive for the performers. I am also someone who is compassionate with stage nerves and I can provide support when needed.
Finally, I have also worked in theatre. This is important as this shows that I have experience in mic changes as well as how to work under a time schedule in a high-pressured environment. I have experience with working with a musical director, choreographer and singing specialist. Because of this, I have gained skills such as listening to other people’s ideas and have been able to apply different perspective into my own performances. This has mean that I have learnt a range of skills and I am able to give out a range of ideas if needed.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
Yours faithfully,
Louise Cornock
