The Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation is 1 of 38 recreational cricket organisations who have the responsibility to support, grow and enhance grassroots cricket in the county, whilst also using cricket as a tool for social good.
The work of the Foundation covers cricket from the Cotswold Hills to the Forest of Dean and along the banks of the River Severn into Bristol. We support recreational cricket across the county of Gloucestershire, the city of Bristol and the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire, giving us a total population of 1.24 million, with 77% living in urban areas.
The areas in which we work are incredibly different and pose both great challenge and opportunity. From the growing ethnically diverse populations in Bristol and Gloucester (11% in total across the county), where the urban communities represent a real and significant opportunity for the game of cricket to grow and give back to wider society, to that of the rural districts where travel and opportunity often create an access challenge in more traditional settings.
Our continued vision is to put bats and balls into more people’s hands as we truly want cricket to become the most inclusive team sport in Gloucestershire by inspiring every generation and community to feel they belong in the game. Our method is to work in the direction and framework of the ECB’s new strategy whilst ensuring that it is right and relevant to the people of Gloucestershire, so building a stronger sense of belonging to cricket across our county.
