Member Bio

Since 2003, Bristol Film Office has been working behind the scenes to make Bristol one of the UK’s most film-friendly cities. Supporting TV and film productions of all sizes, this Bristol City Council department is a one-stop-shop assisting with everything from location and crewing advice to recces and logistical support.

Our main services are:

  • Filming permission – we issue permits for filming on Bristol City Council managed property and land.
  • Bristol locations – we assist commercial productions with sourcing locations and support with logistical arrangements at Council-managed locations. We also manage a Locations Database which enables productions to search for locations and properties to register as potential filming locations.
  • Providing advice – we can advise on any aspects of filming in the city, including local crew and production facilities, office and build space and more.
  • Inward investment – we calculate the value of production activity to Bristol’s economy.

We also manage activity for Bristol UNESCO City of Film.

Bristol boasts a rich history of film and TV production, with many well-known programmes and films made here over the years. From recent hits like The Outlaws and Showtrial, to older classics like The Young Ones and Only Fools and Horses; take a look at some of the fantastic shows that have filmed in our city here.

As a division of Bristol City Council, we play an important role in attracting and facilitating high levels of filming which generates more than £20m per year towards Bristol’s economy, creating employment for freelance crew and industry companies, knock-on benefits for wider business sectors and increased screen tourism in the city.
