Production Editor

Our Media

Job Description

We’re looking for a Production Editor to join Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine on a full-time permanent basis.

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine is the UK’s leading family history magazine. Associated with the BBC TV series, we cover practical family history content, reader stories and historical features. Our readers are keen family historians who want to add to their family tree while also understanding the world their ancestors lived in. We produce 13 issues a year plus extra content for Apple News.

The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running, so prior experience as a production editor or sub-editor is essential. You’ll be able to edit copy so that it is clear, compelling and consistent with eye-catching headlines, captions and standfirsts. You’ll also be a stickler for accuracy, ready to question and check facts.

Working as part of a busy editorial team, you will be highly organised, managing copy flow and commissioning sections of the magazine as well as some writing. The successful candidate will also work with our features editor to help grow our online content. We are looking for someone willing to learn about the world of family history so that they understand what our readers are looking for and can contribute to forward planning meetings.

Flexible and hybrid working

We know we create great things and have fun when we come together in person and collaborate. We also know that working from home brings great benefits in terms of being able to focus on our work, and manage our personal lives around our roles. With this in mind, we have established a hybrid working pattern, with 60% of the working week spent in the office.

Our people also benefit from a flexi time policy, and a flexi location policy which gives everyone the opportunity to work from another location for two weeks during the year.
