It’s 1932 and the Unemployed Workers Union organise a protest against a proposed cut to the meagre benefits for the Unemployed. Police and rioters clash in Old Market, which was at the time a bustling thoroughfare, with both sides blaming each other. Eyewitness accounts at the time suggest where the blame lies.
Join writer and historian Mike Manson for a ‘Rebel Walk’ through Old Market, as he reveals the hidden story behind the riot, drawing on recently discovered documents that reveal governmental fears of deeper conspiracies.
Mike Manson is the author of Riot! The Bristol Bridge Massacre of 1793 (Tangent Books).
