We are pleased to offer the opportunity to book a free of charge 30 minute 1:2:1 session for people strategy advice, specifically geared towards the needs of creative businesses.

Richard Roberts has over 30 years’ experience of helping organisations establish dynamic people strategies that help to shape culture and build highly productive and engaged teams. Across his career he has supported a number of marketing and creative agencies as an outsourced HR Director and consultant. These sessions are available to all BCI members FREE OF CHARGE, and are delivered in collaboration with en:Rich HR.

After booking, Richard will send you a meeting link the week before the session.

If you’re not yet a member of Bristol Creative Industries and would like to take advantage of this member-only event, you can sign up here. You can also read about the membership perks here.

You’ve probably heard the saying: Your network is your net worth. But if you can’t clearly communicate with that network, your net worth is less valuable. That’s why we launched The Bristol Speakers Club – a supportive, creative space to practise public speaking and develop confidence.

After running our first cohort in Spring 2025, the feedback has been incredible:

“The Bristol Speakers Club was fantastic – so supportive and innovative. I’ve been to quite a few groups over the years trying to build confidence in public speaking, but this one really stood out with its unique approach using science, mindfulness and modern techniques fit for the digital age. Since attending, I’ve been invited to deliver a paid talk (which went really well!) and asked to return for regular events. I never thought that was possible.”
– Tyrone Probert, Ecotribo Ltd

What makes it different?

This isn’t just a place to practise speaking. It’s a space that’s deliberately small, mighty, and welcoming – where you can experiment, try new things, and improve in the company of people who genuinely want you to succeed.

We welcome everyone – whether you’re brand new to speaking, experienced on stage, or somewhere in between. Whatever your age, background, or identity, there’s room for you here. And because we’re building this club together, we listen closely to feedback and keep shaping the sessions to give you the most value.

Together, we grow skills that go beyond the stage:
– Deep listening
– Powerful storytelling
– Meaningful connection
– Clarity and expression
– Staying calm under pressure

It’s about full-bodied communication: speaking from the heart, listening with attention, and connecting with authenticity.

Who’s behind the club?

James Potten — Entrepreneur and facilitator who creates empowering spaces for people to move past limiting beliefs and discover what they’re capable of. James brings energy, curiosity, and a love of storytelling to every session, helping members grow in confidence, presence, and connection.

David Sloly — Agency owner, BBC-trained journalist, storyteller, comedy writer, and author. He has helped everyone from Arsenal footballers to CEOs find their voice, combining creativity and clarity to shape powerful messages. David has also delivered talks at SXSW and TEDx, bringing humour and insight to audiences.

Annette Sloly – Senior Clinical Hypnotherapist and Performance Coach with 13+ years’ experience helping people manage anxiety, self-doubt, and high-pressure moments. Annette’s clients range from professionals and leaders to artists and performers, many of whom go on to speak at conferences, lead workshops, or perform at major festivals. She brings the same blend of expertise, encouragement, and calm presence into the Speakers Club, helping people find their voice with authenticity and confidence.

Interested in enhancing your team’s management and leadership skills with Agile Scrum Practices? Bath Spa University’s Skills Bootcamp in Agile Scrum teaches about the Scrum framework, including how to establish cross-functional and self-managing teams, and how to produce a working increment at the end of each work cycle/sprint.

The course is delivered online over seven weeks, with around six hours of learning per week. You’ll engage with industry experts in hands-on workshops, developing practical Agile skills you can apply immediately. The course also includes one exam sitting for the BCS EXIN Foundation Certificate in Agile Scrum in December.

Here’s what one of our previous learners had to say about their experience:

“I felt well supported on the Skills Bootcamp, and there was a good atmosphere to ask questions if I needed to. I’ve developed my understanding of Scrum and how to work better with Scrum, which has influenced and developed my team collaboration and communication skills.”

The Skills Bootcamps Programme is funded and managed by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WEMCA) and delivered by Bath Spa University. Thanks to funding from the Department for Education, this Skills Bootcamp is significantly subsidised.

If you are based in the WEMCA region and an SME employer (under 250 employees), the cost of this course is 90% off for individuals who work for you. If you are a large employer (with over 250 employees) you’ll receive a 70% discount for your employees.

The bootcamp will start on Tuesday 4 November for seven weeks, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:30am – 12:00p.

Mastered, in partnership with the West of England Combined Authority, is offering a fully funded Skills Bootcamp in Creative Production – designed for freelancers and small business owners who want to sharpen their production and project management skills.
