Confronting work alienation: What can we learn from employee ownership?

Join Professor Mario Vafeas and Dr Ed Little (Bristol Business School) who will be sharing and discussing research recently completed on employee engagement. The research investigates a phenomenon called alienation which can lead to reduced job performance and negative wellbeing.

Who is this workshop for:

  • Anyone with leadership or people management responsibilities
  • Anyone with customer experience responsibilities given the relationship between employee motivation and customer experience/satisfaction
  • Any agency considering the possible transition to employee ownership would also find it very relevant.

What will the workshop cover:

  • The causes and consequences of employee alienation
  • How it varies within and between businesses
  • How firms could reduce alienation by adopting some of the practices found in employee-owned firms
  • How some employee-owned practices can lead to tensions if not managed correctly.

  • welcome and guest speaker (James de le Vingne, CEO of the Employee Ownership Association)
  • presentation of the research findings
  • interactive workshops
  • panel discussion to address issues emerging from the workshops.
