Employee-owned communications agency Purplefish has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of Liam Britnell as Associate Director.
The appointment comes as Purplefish continues to expand its client portfolio across technology, innovation and purpose-driven organisations. As an employee-owned business, the agency combines commercial expertise with a collaborative ownership culture, empowering its team to deliver high-impact communications programmes that create measurable business outcomes for clients.
Liam joins the Bristol-based agency with more than 12 years’ experience in strategic B2B communications, technology, the built environment and large-scale regional activations. His experience portfolio includes some of the South West’s most recognised campaigns and events, including the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, The Grand Appeal, and Gromit Unleashed.
Known for helping organisations build their profile and achieve commercial growth through strategic communications, three-times B Corp certified Purplefish specialises in technology, innovation, built environment and purpose-led sectors. Liam’s appointment reflects the agency’s continued investment in its people and its ambitious plans for growth over the coming years.
In his new role, Liam will lead client accounts across Purplefish’s established technology portfolio while supporting the agency’s continued expansion in the sector. As part of the senior leadership team, he will work alongside Managing Director Lucy McKerron and Founding Director Joanna Randall to drive business growth, strengthen client relationships and reach the agency’s long-term strategic objectives.
Liam joins Purplefish from AMBITIOUS, where he spent more than five years progressing from Senior Consultant to Associate Director. During his time there, he managed a diverse portfolio of B2B clients and also served as the agency’s People and Culture Lead, helping to shape employee engagement and professional development initiatives.
Alongside his B2B communications credentials, Liam brings extensive experience delivering high-profile community and charitable campaigns. Most notably, he supported The Grand Appeal’s 2025 Gromit Unleashed trail, which raised more than £2 million for Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Commenting on the appointment, Lucy McKerron, Managing Director at Purplefish, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Liam to Purplefish at a pivotal and exciting time for the business. As we continue to grow, we’re focused on building a leadership team that reflects our values, ambitions and commitment to delivering exceptional results for our clients.
“As an employee-owned business, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Liam brings a wealth of experience across technology, B2B communications and team leadership, alongside a collaborative and values-driven approach that makes him a fantastic fit for Purplefish.”
Liam Britnell added:
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Purplefish and starting this new chapter in my career. Bristol has a thriving communications community and Purplefish has earned a strong reputation for delivering meaningful, strategic work that helps organisations grow while making a positive impact.”
“I’m looking forward to bringing my experience across technology, the built environment and purpose-led campaigns to support the agency’s clients and contribute to the next stage of Purplefish’s growth journey.”
