Visit West launches new screen tourism campaign with blockbuster-inspired film

11th August 2026

A new short film called Starring Bristol has been launched by Visit West today, showcasing some of the blockbuster productions filmed in Bristol to encourage visitors and locals to ‘step onto set and find your favourite scene’ as part of a new screen tourism campaign.

Standout scenes filmed in Bristol from Wolf Hall (Playground, Company Pictures, Banijay Rights), Rivals (Disney+), The Forsytes (Mammoth Screen, Masterpiece), Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death (Aardman Animations), The Outlaws (Big Talk Studios, Four Eyes), Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (Aardman Animations, Netflix), Skins (All3Media and Company Pictures) and Stan & Ollie (Lionsgate), have been cleverly stitched together as the Starring Bristol film follows three couples experiencing the city’s filming locations.

The film features showstopping locations such as Bristol Cathedral, Queen Square, Park Street and Banksy’s “Well Hung Lover” mural, St Werburgh’s City Farm, Brandon Hill, Bristol Harbourside, the SS Great Britain at Bristol Dockyards, SUP Bristol, Bristol Ferry, Corn Street, Harbour Hotel Bristol and Clifton Suspension Bridge and has been produced by Bristol-based film company Mint Cake Productions, with local actors and crew utilised to produce the film.

Visit West has also partnered with SetJetters movie scene location app to showcase over 50 scenes from high-profile productions filmed across the West of England, such as Bridgerton, Doctor Who, Wonkaand over 2,500 scenes across Britain. The free-to-download mobile phone app is already established across many cities worldwide, bringing film, TV, and video game locations to life, helping fans discover, visit and recreate iconic scenes.

Combining interactive maps, location-based discovery, gamification and an innovative ShotSync camera feature, the app enables users to stand in the exact spot where scenes were filmed, capture side-by-side recreations and explore the local culture, history and points of interest around each location. Designed for both travellers and screen enthusiasts, the SetJetters app taps into the growing screen tourism movement and now with over 50 scenes to find across Bristol and Bath added to the app – including all those featured in the Starring Bristol film – it’s expected to attract even more visitors to the region.

Recent statistics from VisitBritain reveal that screen tourism is a significant draw for visitors to the UK. Of those who have taken a trip in the UK within the last decade, seven in ten have visited a film or TV location. Looking ahead, nine in ten people considering a trip to the UK say they would be interested in visiting a film or TV location during a future visit.

Kathryn Davis, CEO of Visit West said: “Bristol and Bath’s iconic architecture and landscapes are often the star of the show, and we’re delighted to highlight some of the region’s most recognisable filming locations in the SetJetters app and the Starring Bristol short video.

“Screen tourism is a well-established driver of inbound and domestic visits to the region and we’re excited to see how partnering with SetJetters and producing Starring Bristol will draw even more people to not only discover their favourite filming locations, but also to extend their experience beyond the scene and into our local attractions, shops, hotels, tours, restaurants and bars.”

Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England, said: “We love seeing Bristol, and whole of the West of England, on our screens. Making films and TV shows here has a huge impact for local jobs and businesses.

“Tens of millions of pounds are added to our economy each year thanks to incredible productions, including Rivals, Wonka, Bridgerton, and Wolf Hall, being filmed here in our region.

“Seeing these stunning locations in real life is one of the many reasons to come and visit the West Country and I am sure Starring Bristol and the SetJetters app will help even more people to discover why our part of the world is so often the star of the show.”

VisitBritain CEO Patricia Yates said: “It’s great to see Visit West tapping into the power of screen tourism to put the region’s outstanding visitor offer centre-stage through its new Starring Bristol showreel and SetJetters app.

“It’s also timely as we continue to roll out our global Starring GREAT Britain campaign. Using films and TV shows as the hook, we’re telling the story of our dynamic and diverse destinations including Bristol and Bath, inspiring visitors to put themselves in the picture and book a trip now, driving spending into regional economies.”
