PR is one of the most effective ways to build a brand’s reputation and keep it visible in the media, while influencer marketing has become a powerful tool for connecting with audiences through people they already know and trust. When the two are combined, they can create a much bigger impact than either channel can achieve on its own. A real messaging powerhouse is created! In today’s blog, intern Taylor explains why.
One of the biggest benefits of combining PR and influencer marketing is the ability to reach a wider audience. PR helps brands gain exposure through media coverage, introducing them to broad audiences across news outlets, blogs, podcasts, and industry publications. Influencer marketing adds another layer by delivering messages directly to niche communities and specific demographics through social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
By using both strategies together, brands can ensure their message is seen across multiple channels and touchpoints. This not only increases visibility but also helps reinforce the key messages, making campaigns stick in people’s minds.
If we look at Rhode’s postcard campaign, one of my favourite examples, we can see these two techniques working together effectively. As both the founder and face of the brand, Hailey Bieber has built a highly engaged audience that closely follows her lifestyle and product recommendations. This means Rhode can leverage her influence to generate immediate interest and engagement. At the same time, the campaign created ongoing anticipation by gradually revealing which country the postcards would appear in next, generating consistent media coverage and social media discussion. Together, these tactics have strengthened Rhode’s brand storytelling by turning each campaign element into part of a larger story that audiences want to follow.

To get the most out of a combined PR and influencer marketing strategy, brands need to really think about who they partner with. Choosing influencers whose values, audience, and content style align with the brand is a lot more important than just looking at follower count. Things like audience engagement, credibility, and authenticity have a much bigger impact on campaign success.
It’s also important for PR teams and influencers to work towards the same campaign goals. Yes, key messages should be consistent, but giving creators the flexibility to communicate in their own voice often leads to more authentic content that resonates better with their audience.
Consumer behaviour is always evolving and the relationship between PR and influencer marketing is only becoming more valuable. Rather than viewing them as separate strategies, brands should see them as complementary tools.
