Member Bio
I’m an independent senior product designer specialising in health. I’ve 10 years design experience across healthtech, regulated medical devices, AI products, and consumer scale-ups. Many digital health products fail because their key journeys don’t work. I help founders, scale-ups and agencies fix them.
Who I help
- Health founders with a product taking off who need senior design without committing to a full-time hire
- Scale-ups whose patient activation, clinician adoption or onboarding numbers aren’t moving
- Agencies needing a senior, healthcare-experienced designer to plug a gap on a regulated project
How I work
- Journey diagnosis. A focused 5-day analysis of one key flow, whether live, in build, or still at the design stage. You get a written report with prioritised fixes, annotated screens showing drop-off points, edge cases and compliance risks. £2,500 fixed price.
- Ongoing engagement. For teams who want the diagnosis and the fix. I work embedded with you from discovery through to live, on one or more critical flows. From £500 per day, typically 2 to 6 weeks.
A few results
- Genomics needed to cut sample rejections of their US/UK at-home genetic test. As Senior
Product Designer, worked with lab staff to identify rejection drivers; designed simple, accessible
online instructions based on GDS design patterns and redesigned the physical test kit. In first
month post-launch, sample rejection rate fell to 0.3% (-9.7%) saving $2,000 per 500 kits. Full
case study. - Genomics needed to increase account-creation rate on their genetic test marketing website. As
Senior Product Designer, identified pain points through survey data and usability testing;
redesigned the site with new product identity, clearer messaging and simpler science content. In
first month post-launch, account-creation rate rose to 59.3% (+5.3%), outperforming healthcare
benchmarks of 40%. Full case study. - Candide needed a gifting feature ahead of Christmas on a tight deadline. As Product Designer,
researched gifter and receiver needs including accessibility barriers for older users; designed a
progressively disclosed multi-step flow with WCAG AAA compliance; validated with unmoderated
usability testing across 20 participants. In three months post-launch, 505 gift memberships drove
£32k revenue; 80% of over-65 recipients rated the experience very easy; 13 new garden
partnership discussions initiated. Full case study. - RTD Denver and Uber needed a universal fare-collection SDK for partner app integration. As sole
Product/UX/UI Designer, designed a new ticket UI solving conductor scanning problems and
scroll limitations inherent to SDK viewports; launched to RTD Denver, Uber and MTA. RTD Denver
revenue rose 39.2% and Uber trips starting or ending at transit stations increased 11.6%.
What they say
‘Oli’s blend of technical skill, principled user-centred thinking, and experience make him a valuable addition to the team.’
Tom Byers, Lead Product Designer, Genomics
‘I constantly relied on Oli’s calm, focused and methodical approach to unlocking the problem we needed to solve. He tackled complex journeys that required adherence to regulation and balanced that with keeping things simple for the end user.’
Catharine Webber, Head of Digital Product, Candide
‘His thorough approach to exploring problems, framing opportunities, and creating solutions made him a joy to work with. His deep understanding of UX best practices was integral to designing successful products.’
Giles Currington, Product Design Lead, Candide
Why teams bring me in
- Healthcare-specific. I’ve shipped MHRA-approved medical devices and US clinical products. I know how to work with clinical advisors, legal and regulatory teams, not just PMs and engineers.
- Outcome-led. My benchmark is patient activation, clinician adoption and other key metrics. Not screens shipped.
- Accessible by default. Health products reach older adults, people with low digital literacy and users under stress. I design for that from the start, not as a last-minute audit. As someone who stammers, I also bring lived experience of disability and a working method built on listening properly before suggesting anything.
- Senior attention throughout. You work directly with me, not someone new to design who gets handed the brief.
- Low coordination overhead. I define my own work and give engineering clear design specs. You’re not project-managing me.
- Honest, not just agreeable. I’ll tell you if I see issues with the brief, the timeline is too ambitious, or the design isn’t addressing the right problem.
