Member Bio
Alice Flynn is a South-West based writer who tells stories with horror, humour and heart. She is a deeply politically engaged and imaginative voice, interested in analysing the myths we live by and the stories that shape our realities. She utilises conventions of horror and magical realism to explore complex issues around identity, faith and justice, with the end goal of telling moving, galvanising stories with a political message at their heart. Her stories often feature expansive worlds, rich lyricism and deeply flawed but magnetic characters. Her voice is dark, funny and painfully sincere.
Her first play, Little Sister was shortlisted for Women’s Prize For Playwriting in 2021 and nominated for Best Play at the 2026 Fringe Theatre Awards. Her next play Sluts With Consoles was nominated for UNTAPPED and went on to tour the UK to critical acclaim, and her play 1000 Ways The World Will End headlined the Queer Futures season at King’s Head Theatre. She went on to study MA Drama Writing at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where she developed The Ballad Of Hedra Blight, a folk horror story set in postwar Cornwall. During her studies, she learned to write for audio drama, TV and film, and developed a number of projects including The Ghost Of Maules, The Fence, Pyromania, and a co-written short film Swingers.
Living with complex mental health issues, her work often comes from a place of emotional honesty and radical empathy. She is most interested in how ordinary people negotiate with fundamentally inhumane systems, placing human connection and solidarity at the centre of her work. She wears both her heart and her politics on her sleeve, and views storytelling as an evocative vehicle to speak truth to power and expose our common humanity.
