Back in the day, it was the specialists who were most sought after. The current shift in the landscape for creative industries has resulted in the rise of the generalist.
Employers are recognising the value of generalists who can see the bigger picture, connect diverse ideas, and adapt to changing circumstances. Those who are “quite good at a lot of things” are often better equipped to handle complex challenges and navigate the evolving creative landscape.
Come and hear Danie Stinchcombe’s story of how she accidentally generalised and get tips on how you could consciously shift and gain this new super skill.

Whether you’re a marketer, designer, copywriter, videographer or any type of creative currently specialising in one niche and you are curious about how to branch out and pick up more skills, this one’s for you.
Danie is the marketing director at Gather Round, a group of co-working and events spaces in the South West.
As a startup business with a small team she’s the only person who has ‘marketing’ in her title. So with the support of freelancers and the community managers she runs marketing campaigns, external comms, website updates, blog content, PR and the social media content for all three of their locations, a multi-tasking generalist through and through.
She had an unconventional career path – trained as a dancer, started off in the world of radio advertising sales and 25 years later (including seven years as a freelancer) she’s landed here.
