Been thinking about picking up the camera? Whether you’re a Researcher, AP or Producer, or you make digital and social content and want to learn how TV does it, this one’s for you. You’ll get hands-on with the Sony FX6, learn to shoot for the edit, and work out how to fit into a show’s visual style. You’ll also shoot on location in mini crews and get feedback from working industry tutors.
Best for people with at least 2 years’ industry experience.
Good pictures get you noticed, but good sound gets a programme delivered. This one covers mics, mixers and recorders, plus how to troubleshoot when the wind picks up or your contributor won’t stand still. You’ll learn from an experienced Sound Recordist and put it all into practice on live location shoots.
Best for Researchers, APs and Self-Shooters with at least 2 years’ experience who want to offer more as a freelancer.
Talent gets you started, but keeping a freelance career going takes a bit more. This bootcamp is for creative freelancers who want to build stronger business foundations and a more resilient practice. You’ll work on finding your freelance identity, landing work, negotiating fees, managing your finances, growing your client base and finding funding. There’s also a focus on well-being and sustainable working practices, plus planning your next steps and networking with purpose.
New to managing people, or about to be? This one’s for emerging managers and team leaders in the creative industries who want practical tools and more confidence. You’ll cover clear communication, delegation, giving good feedback, handling tricky conversations and managing conflict and pressure. It also looks at inclusive management, wellbeing and psychological safety, and managing freelancers alongside permanent staff. You’ll finish with your own people-management action plan to put to work straight away.
Skills Bootcamps are government-funded. You need to be a UK resident aged 19+ with the right to work here.
