Hey. My name is Josh and I am a freelance Performance and Cinematics Director & 1st AD with over 10 years of experience in the industry. Street art enthusiast, coffee snob, keen sneakerhead, and a proud father of two. Working out of Bristol, England.
My career started in this industry as an actor, working predominantly in the world of performance capture on over 40 AAA, feature & indie productions, including over 30 AAA video games, such as ‘Age of Empires IV”, ‘Just Cause’, ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ and Guy Ritchie’s ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’; major feature films, including Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’ and Andy Serkis’s ‘Mowgli’; and multiple award-winning immersive XR & Virtual Reality productions showcased across the world.
Growing up I always wanted to direct, so as the technology advanced and the demand from the audience became greater, I decided to hang up my lycra and start to forge my path as a cinematics director for video games and performance capture.
I now work with video game developers to bring their characters to life. By combining my passion for modern storytelling with my technical motion capture and animation experience, I have a passion for creating engaging stories that draw the players in and leave a lasting impression. I specialise in working with actors to ensure the best performance for each character. Having worked for a long time as an actor myself before moving into production, I have an understanding & a shared language that hopefully makes my approach more accessible for the cast and more rewarding for the development teams. I truly know that each project is unique, there is no ‘one-size fits all’, and now having worked in this medium on over 50 productions I have found a process that can help streamline any production. Motion capture can be a daunting environment for actors of any calibre, having to adapt to no costume, set, or environment to work with – just a studio and a lycra suit. Therefore having a dialogue and understanding for them to thrive is crucial to getting the best results. You can have a fantastic crew, and all the modern technology on top, but if your storytelling & performance is off-key, then it’s all for nothing.
No matter the project, I’m dedicated to ensuring that the performance of the characters is as true to the original vision as possible. With an eye for detail and a passion for the art, I am committed to helping create the most realistic characters and worlds possible.
Thanks for being here, drop me an email and let’s collaborate.
Josh
