Member Bio
Originally from Merseyside, Johnny Barlow is a guitarist/singer/songwriter/composer with 30 years of experience in the music industry. With ten full UK tours under his belt as a principal member and lead guitarist of Ian Prowse & Amsterdam for the last 25 of those years.
In this position as a guitar player of mood and invention, Johnny was instrumental in shaping the band’s 2008 duet of ‘Don’t Throw Your Love Away’ with Elvis Costello on EMI records.
Having played Glastonbury, Abbey Road and sold out the Liverpool Philharmonic with Amsterdam, Johnny played both bass and lead guitar on the band’s biggest hit ‘Does This Train Stop on Merseyside’, which famously left John Peel in tears live on air when he played it. Irish legend Christy Moore has also covered the song.
Johnny has released one solo album of self-penned tunes, ‘The Fosse Way’, which one reviewer described as a ‘remarkable piece of musicianship’. The much-anticipated follow-up is due in 2023, with a new LP, ‘The Three of Swords,’ released this spring.
