We are seeking an experienced Senior Editor to work on an eclectic list of books, crafts and toys for children and the young at heart.
With at least five years’ experience and as well as meticulous attention to detail, proofreading, and strong writing skills, you’ll bring curiosity to the role, and the flexibility to learn, think and do things differently. With one eye on the market, you’ll be able to spot the next big thing before it becomes big, and you’ll enjoy connecting with people to bring ideas to life. Key Responsibilities
- Editorially and creatively manage an agreed list of products from concept to print, ensuring that they are on schedule and on budget with exemplary editorial standards throughout.
- Create briefs for in-house designers and external freelancers, agreeing budgets with the Editorial Director and Director of Product and supplying contracts as required.
- Develop and maintain great relationships with freelancers, agents, packagers, and IP holders, representing Curious Universe with professionalism, understanding and creative excellence.
- Assist more junior members of the team with their day-to-day project work, scheduling briefing and kick-off meetings, and supporting them in achieving their development goals and objectives.
- Keep up to date with developments in the book, craft, stationery, licensing and toy markets to drive innovation across your list.
Required skills
- A creative self-starter with at least five years’ editorial experience
- A demonstrable passion for children’s books, toys and crafts
- Exceptional organisational skills, a meticulous eye for detail, and proven experience in managing a wide-ranging list
- An in-depth understanding of the children’s market
- Strong copywriting and proofreading skills
