Join for a screening of the Hijabi film and a frank conversation afterwards with the BAFTA award-winning Hijabi director Samir Mehanovic, and hosts Dr Norah El-Gohary and Tara Miran.
With the significant rise in Islamophobia recently and Muslims in the community feeling more unsafe and isolated we invite you to this space for Muslims to come along and share their experiences with others with support, and a chance for non-Muslims to meet Muslims in their community, ask questions, get to know more about lived experiences of their neighbours and show support. Let’s share or imagine what better and best can be like.
In Bath and Bristol there is great stuff going on, however there remains a lot still to be done too, to make sport, health, culture and education more inclusive and accessible, from school to boardroom, to pitch. We want all our children, and all people, to have safe, supportive spaces from PE class to watching or playing matches, to work, to living full lives safely every day.
We welcome everyone of all faiths, people of no faiths, all identities and backgrounds. Individuals, families, employers, educators – school/ college/ universities, sports and culture, especially Muslims and allies.
Note about the content and space
Hosted and supported by Film Bath, The Belonging Network, Frank Conversations and partners, because we want to have more of these type of conversations, in supportive spaces, bringing stories and voices not seen or heard enough, and have them lead the conversations.
We therefore welcome people to bring their friends, family, children, students and colleagues, with the understanding that this some of this content is a hard, important watch, and that people need to know we can make space for them and their stories and experiences to be heard at any age with your consent.
